The Matalj winery is a witness to the rich heritage of the viticultural area of Negotinska Krajina. Through a legacy deeply rooted in tradition and an unwavering passion for wine, we remain committed to the same goal – to make wines that reflect the essence of our local terroir. Our daily life is reflected in working in the vineyard on our land, where we strive every day to get to know the landscape and the climate around us better.

VINEYARDS· SOIL· STONE

Bathed in the Negotin sun, our grapes growing in the embrace of the Timok and Danube Rivers embody the unique character of this place. The vineyards are covered with stone, alluvial deposits, and shell fossils from the ancient Pannonian Sea. This specific soil and climate, proximity to the rivers, and abundance of sunlight create magic within each bottle. A place where tradition merges with the gifts of nature, where wine becomes art. In our vineyards, we grow indigenous varieties such as Prokupac, Bagrina, Začinka, and Crna Tamjanika, which bear witness to the tradition of winemaking in our area. Along with them, we also have top international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, from which luxurious wines are made that combine the character of the variety and the style of the region in which they thrive.

The diversity and complexity of our wines reflect all the complexity of this terroir. Our wines from international varieties interpret the local terroir in their unique way, and wines from indigenous varieties breathe the essence of Negotinska Krajina. Each bottle represents a new discovery, a new chapter in our story.
