Skaska Distillery
Skaska Distillery is specialized in plum brandy, which is carefully produced in small batches using traditional methods in copper stills with double distillation – ’’prepečenica’’. Everything is done under the supervision of our master distiller, Mr. Zoran Jevtović, who is the fourth generation of masters in the production of plum brandy.
Skaska Distillery is family-owned and located in the small village of Bare in Šumadija, on the old estate of one of our founders, Mr. Andreja Bošković. Since 2017, the reconstruction and adaptation of old buildings have been underway, giving them the appearance of a modern distillery while maintaining the authentic Šumadija spirit. The plum orchards are spread over three locations, covering a total area of 2.5 hectares, with around 1,100 trees.
The production capacity is up to 10,000 bottles annually, made from plums from our own orchards, which in full production yield about 70 tons. After the late harvest in September, when the plums are technologically ripe and ready for “picking up”, the processing begins by separating the pits. The crushed plums are then transferred to 10-ton stainless steel tanks where spontaneous fermentation takes place under controlled conditions without the addition of any enological agents. After fermentation is complete, the distillation process begins immediately in two copper stills, with capacities of 400l and 1000l. The resulting distillate, with an alcohol content over 60%, is exclusively placed in 225l barrels made of French oak for aging, with a minimum aging period of 5 years.
